Riddex Plus

Last Sunday, November 4th, I saw a commercial for Riddex Plus for the first time. “It’s Summer! And that means…..” Slight problem with the timing there guys. As with all such commercials, there is a bobbing head blonde, but she isn’t the annoying one. That honour belongs to the 50’ish woman who, just like any real person would, says: “Riddex [pause for effect; shrug shoulders; grin stupidly] (fake smile in voice) makes me happy!” She’s easy to please, eh!

I have looked up various websites in research for this blog entry, and most people seem to say that they work. I have to admit though, when the commercial stated that the device uses Motorola technology, I had my doubts. How many mice or cockroaches have you ever seen carrying mobile phones!!!!! And do they speak the same language? What is “Get out of my f#%$ing house or else I’ll kill you” in cockroach? Doctor Doolittle is apparently alive and well!!

(FYI: I know it really works with electric impulses, but they’re not funny!)

I know your entry on this product is supposed to be light and humourous, but I want to point out two things. First of all, the ad says the product uses "Motorolla technology", and I quoted it exactly as it appears on the screen. They didn't even spell MOTOROLA correctly! Also, what does "Motorola technology" mean anyway? Did they use an integrated circuit chip made my Motorola? Did they use a technology to emit supersonic sounds that was developed by Motorola? In either case, the hype isn't a compelling reason to buy the product. Anyone can take a Motorola IC and make a circuit with it and say they used "Motorola technology", but that doesn't mean anything. And if the supersonic sound design was from Motorola, they certainly didn't intend it as a pest killer. So why mention it?

Thanks for your comment. I hadn't noticed the misspelling, which would tend to take away any little credibility they may have had. As for using the name Motorola, some people are impressed with brand names. That's about the best logic I can give you on that. But why people would think Motorola would know anything about pest control is beyond me.

I have heard things about this product. It seems that it does mostly work, but people with small children shouldn't use them. Also, some people can hear the sound emissions near where the unit is plugged in. Quite disturbing for me, are reports that mice suddenly run into the middle of rooms, seeming completely disoriented. Not sure exactly what to make of that, but it doesn't make me want to go out and buy the product!

It is simple, they don't work. Lets assume they really do emit some kind of pulse throughout your house. Why would pests be repelled by this? I just watched a study on this product and the results basically say not any part of their claim is true.

Patented, oh really, whats the patent number... fake

I can guarantee you that it does not work, "digital impulses" in your wiring system will not have any affect on any living creatures in your house. However, small ultrasound devices will actually affect mating and inhabiting patterns of medium sized to large insects and small rodents. Look for those devices instead.

Riddex Plus very useful. Thank you.
